 We are a 3-piece band from Germany (Katarina: Vocals, Synth Lars: Bass guitar, synths programming, arrangements, Friedi: Drums) originating from the Cologne area. We play music that we like to describe as raw post-punk. And we are looking very forward to our live debut at DC Rojc Open Air festival.

From clinical post-punk to trippy psychedelia, with mesmerizing synth elements and a darkwave background, Kadeadkas captures the authentic and rather hypnotic essence of these genres combined. How did your story begin?

We listen to music from different genres. Whether it’s 60’s garage, psychedelic rock, positive/ post-punk (in its origin form), old movie soundtracks, 80s synthwave, pop etc.

I love the aesthetic and uniqueness of the 80’s punk and goth scene. It’s not about being perfect, walking in someone’s shoes or fitting in the mainstream… It’s about creating and defining your own forms of beauty.

Your debut album is titled „HalluciNation“, and what’s even more intriguing is the mix of songs in English and Croatian. Specifically, the opening track, „Gdje Da Idem“, is beautifully melancholic, fatalistic and optimistic all at once (and it got us hooked!). How did this interesting linguistic blend come about?

As my parents are both from Croatia, I (Katarina) speak a little bit of the Croatian language.

It’s sometimes out of my comfort zone, but to sing songs in this language feels more soulful sometimes. For me, it sounds more deep and personal that way. And sometimes it simply just suits the music better than to sing in English or German.

What drives you the most when it comes to creating music?

To create our own music together with other people, and the fact that you feel better after it – because music is therapy.

What does “dead” represent in the name Kadeadkas?

The past is dead and gone, but it still haunts us throughout our lives. We drank wine together in the misty shades of a cold October night, looking for a new chapter in our lifes. Hungry for love but drawn to death.

How would you describe the ultimate “dream come true” for the band?

For us it’s not the point of being famous, loved or anything like that. It’s just being able to do what you’re passionate about every day. And maybe reach some people with that.

Post-punk has a strong connection to visual aesthetics. How important is visual identity to your band, and how do you define it?

For us as a band and human-wise, it’s important to express ourselves. Not only on stage, but every day, every hour, be ourselves. Identity rebellion, to live our life as we want to. Also with all the visual aspects.

Lars and myself founded the band because creativity and art is a huge point in our lives. We wanted to create something unique not only for Audience, but for ourselves. And Friedi, who joined the band, is a likewise person.

If you would have to choose 3 everyday items to represent what Kadeadkas truly is, that would be….

There is probably one everyday item that can describe Kadeadkas that has inspired us in the beginning. It’s red wine called Kadarka. 🙂

This summer, you will be playing in Pula for the first time. What can we expect from your performance, and what do you hope to experience from the crowd?

My mother lives in Peroj and we have visited Rojc and Uljanik (until it has been closed down) for almost every year since 2010, to attend concerts and festivals. So we are not completely unfamiliar with the audience & the venue. We always loved the atmosphere, the sound, and the reverberation of Rojc and wanted to play a show there. So this year’s festival will definitely start with a tad more gloom and doom. 🙂
