One of the most intriguing noise sludge rock bands of today, the mighty WHORES., is finally coming to Croatia on June 5 at Club Močvara! Enthusiasts of the genre will instantly nod in recognition, as alongside Melvins and Helmet, WHORES. completes the holy trinity of noise sludge, highlighting the influence this band has had on shaping the entire genre and its expression.
What Class Consciousness sounds like
WHORES. is a compact trio from Atlanta, active since 2010. Christian Lembach on vocals and guitar, Casey Maxwell on bass, and Douglas Jennings Barrett on drums have been firmly in the spotlight of genre fans for years.
From their debut EP “Ruiner” to their first studio album “GOLD.” in 2016—which made it onto several notable top 10 year-end lists (Rolling Stone, Metalsucks, Invisible Oranges, Heavy Planet)—to their most recent release “WAR.” in 2023, this trio has shared stages with giants like Melvins, Mudhoney, Slayer, Kylesa, Baroness, Chelsea Wolfe, Big Business, Metallica, Red Fang, and many more. Notably, they also released a split single with the band Rabbits in 2014 featuring covers of songs by The Cure. Their performances are intense, cathartic and incredibly loud, with promises of even higher decibels for their debut show at Močvara.
Anger Channeled into Noise Punk Art
Characterized as the furious sound of a broken and collapsing society, the trio Help embodies frenetic, visceral noise punk from Portland. Their politically and socially charged art communicates unflinching messages and raw emotions, making their music a kind of (anti)motivational statement. Their motto is clear as it can be:
Remove fear from decision-making. Act in defiant joy. Refuse to dominate others. Do not hoard the gifts of the universe. The future is uncertain. Ends don’t justify means. Solidarity now. Class war now.
Help was formed in 2018 by Ryan Neighbors (guitar/vocals), Morty (bass), and Bim Ditson (drums), after a decade of honing their craft in what they call “more restrained” bands. Ditson played with the indie rock group And And And, Neighbors with alt-pop powerhouses Portugal. The Man and his electronic project Hustle and Drone, while Morty… well, he’s been around the block once or twice. Through Help, the trio returns to their roots—punk’s raw essence—which they first embraced in their teens – a time known for rebellion, energy, and unpredictability.
Regular tickets are available via the CoreEvent system for €20, while on the day of the concert, tickets will cost €25. Find out more information on schedule and more on Facebook event.
